Flat Iron Steak

Flat iron steak comes from the shoulder area of the cow and is known for its tenderness and rich flavour. Here’s a recommended method to cook flat iron steak:
  • Preparation – Bring the steak to room temperature by letting it sit out for about 30 minutes. Pat it dry with paper towels.
  • Seasoning – Season the steak generously with salt and pepper. You can also use a dry rub or marinate it with your preferred herbs and spices for added flavour.
  • Preheat:** Preheat your grill, skillet or wok on the hob to high heat.
  • Cooking –  Cook the flat iron steak for about 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, adjusting the time based on your preferred doneness. Use a meat thermometer to ensure it reaches your desired internal temperature.
  • Resting – Allow the steak to rest for at least 5 minutes after cooking. This helps retain juices and ensures a more flavourful and tender result.
  • Slicing – Slice the steak thinly against the grain to maximise tenderness.
Keep in mind the flat iron steak is versatile and can be prepared using various cooking methods. The cooked steak can be added into other dishes. Experimenting with different seasonings and methods can enhance its natural flavours. Enjoy your flat iron steak!
